Crossroads Students Honored with Multiple Accolades
This year, over 60 Middle and Upper School students were recognized and honored in music, dance, technology, writing and visual arts by outside organizations.
Crossroads students enjoy a dynamic, creative environment where they can pursue excellence in academics, art, music and technology. For their accomplishments, a number of students achieved recognition from outside organizations:
DANCE
At the California Dance Classics Youth Ballet Competition, seventh grader Giselle Holiner took second place in the junior classical category, received an honorable mention in the junior contemporary category and was named a final stage finalist. At the Icon Dance Awards, she won second place in the junior classical category and won the overall top award in the junior category. She was awarded numerous scholarships, including to the Princeton Ballet Summer School Intensive and the Dortmund Ballet Junior Summer Program.
MUSIC
Middle School Choral group The Overtones (Taylor Blank, KG Britz, Naomi Burgess, Zander Chin, Loretta Ellis, Prem Geslin, Giselle Holiner, Kai Inoue, Aubriana Jones, Ruby O’Donovan, Lila Pianko, Liam Pierce, Arden Quoc, Harel Shapiro, Jade Troughton, Amy Waters and Milly Winters) received a Silver Rating at the Forum Festival.
Seventh graders Zander Chin and Loretta Ellis both won an Outstanding Musicianship Award at the Forum Festival.
The Eighth Grade Jazz Collective (Travis Beck, Max Bui, Stanley Gavin, Ryder Homme, Jake Merino, Tijaan Neuman and Laz Reznor) earned a Gold Rating at the Forum Festival.
Ninth grade bassists Landon Hollman and Miles Prabhu were selected to attend the Jazz Institute Stanford Jazz Workshop. Landon was selected for the highly prestigious and competitive 2025 National Endowment for the Arts/Herbie Hancock Institute National Peer-to-Peer All-Star Jazz Quintet, as well as the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Honor Jazz Band . He also won a Merit Scholarship in the The Music Center’s Spotlight Awards.
Ninth grade drummer Oliver Orosco was accepted to attend the Stanford University Jazz Workshop. He was also selected to attend the Interlochen Summer Music Intensive.
Tenth grade saxophonist Shiv Munjal was named a California Arts Scholar and will attend the CalArts California State Summer School for the Arts. He was also selected to play in the California Association of Independent Schools Honor Ensemble along with 10th grade trumpeters Rhys Grandy and Melese Light-Orr.
Tenth grade drummer Beckett Smith was invited to attend the Frost School of Music (University of Miami) Summer Camp.
Tenth grade drummer Kesh Puri won a full-tuition scholarship to Berklee School of Music’s five-week ASPIRE performance intensive and received a Young Artist Grant from the JEXA Awards. Kesh also made it to the second round of The Music Center’s Spotlight Awards alongside 12th grade trumpeter Brij Munjal.
Eleventh grade guitarist Ally Kozicki was selected to play in the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Honor Jazz Band .
Eleventh grade drummer Austin Washington received a merit scholarship at The Music Center’s Spotlight Awards.
Twelfth grade guitarist Sam Pinder was selected to perform in the Texas Tour School of Rock All-Stars Nationwide Touring Band.
Twelfth grade guitarist, vocalist and music production student Brett Yokomoto was selected to participate in NYU’s Tisch Summer High School Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music.
Twelfth grade bassist Rafa Posen won a Certificate of Artistic Achievement in the second round of The Music Center’s Spotlight Awards and received a merit scholarship to attend a three-week intensive at the Interlochen Summer Music Camp.
Twelfth grade saxophonist Nathan Petros received a Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Scholarship.
CLASSICAL MUSIC
The EMMI Chamber Orchestra (Max Bui, Lola Goetz, Ava Grossi, Elizabeth Hayden, Lilian Hoshino, Caden Lin, Knox Reid, Zachary Saidiner, Vivienne Shiao, Prince Wang, Soma Watanabe and Luke Yang) received a Gold rating at the Forum Music Festival.
Ninth grader Vivienne Shiao won the Outstanding Musicianship Award for her solos and leadership in the Bartok Romanian Dances at the Forum Music Festival.
VISUAL ARTS
Tenth grader Leo Grouf received a Certificate of Congressional Recognition for his photograph “Flight of Birds” in the 2025 Artistic Discovery Congressional Art Competition hosted by Congressman Ted Lieu.
This year, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards honored the following Crossroads students:
Tenth grader Zack Cheuk received a Gold and two Silver Medals at the national level, earning him an invitation to attend the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Ceremony at Carnegie Hall earlier this month.
Tenth grader Leo Grouf won a Silver Key for photography.
Eleventh grader Connor Weinhouse won a Gold Key, Silver Key and Honorable Mention for photography.
Eleventh graders Devan Robinov and Anna Rose Barker each won two Silver Keys for Photography. Anna Rose also received two Honorable Mentions.
Tenth grader Max Trejo and 11th grader Sydney Janowitz each received a Silver Key for Photography. Sydney also received an honorable mention.
Tenth grader Tedros Demeksa-Yarnell, 11th graders Alex Weg and Andrea Prieto, and 12th grader Cheikh Diebakhate each received an honorable mention for photography.
Eleventh grader Devyn Rogers received two Honorable Mentions for photography.
IN WRITING
Eleventh grader Anna Rosenblatt won second place in her age range in Anne Frank LA’s “Your Story Matters” essay competition.
Imogen Smith was accepted into the prestigious Iowa Young Writers’ Studio this summer.
IN LANGUAGES

Students in the Middle School Latin Department completed the National Latin Exam and the National Mythology Exam, receiving distinctions including Perfect Score, Gold Summa Cum Laude, Silver Maxima Cum Laude and Magna Cum Laude, amongst others. They participated in the State Latin Convention bringing back first, second and third place awards in multiple categories. Upper School students also completed the National Latin Exam, the Myth Medusa Exam and attended the California Junior Classical League State Convention, where they received awards for Overall Artistic Winner, All-Around Individual, Overall Athletic Winner, as well as first, second and third place ribbons.

Twelfth grader Sophia Ma earned second place in the Congressional App Challenge hosted by Congressman Ted Lieu, for her app Quizme.
